So here's the start of a revolution, o.k. maybe that's a little dramatic, how bout just something new. Another Day Records is an attempt by me and my friends and fellow musicians to be able to do our own thing. Not being controlled by major labels, or any labels, having the freedom to create music, record, and perform without having to "sell our souls to the devil" aka the major label recording industry. Another Day Records originally started as LexTek Records by my good friend Preston. He had a multitrack recording program on his computer and he thought it would be fun to do some recording. My first band My Advice To You would be the guinea pigs. We had learned to play our instruments together as friends and a band and had a handful of original songs to work with. My Advice To You comprised of Daren (bass, vocals) Dustin (drums, guitar, vocals) and Casey (guitar, vocals, drums) had been "recording" on there own with portable boom boxes with built in microphones and eventually got to multitracking via an Aiwa home stereo with a karaoke feature, borrowed microphones and a Realistic mixer from Radio Shack. So we were up for the challenge recording with Preston. He did as much research as possible on recording techniques on the internet and was up for the challenge also. Next came the studio space. We transformed Preston's living room into our studio, using foam mattresses to build "drum rooms" and "vocal booths." (thanks to Preston's wife Crystal for putting up with all of that!) Recording actually went pretty smooth, we weren't the best musicians but we had a lot of fun! Then came the disappointment. The finished product on CD had computer processor noise running through the whole thing. Preston wasn't one to give up easily, so we started from scratch. He bought all new equipment, a Yamaha MD8, an Alesis compressor, an Art multi effects unit, and a handful of mics. This time we recorded in Preston's living room, his bathroom, and eventually we moved into my parents 10x12 shed. Wow! that was cramped. But we pressed on and ended up with an 8 track acoustic ep titled "Before and Now Forever" and a full length 13 track album titled "Don't Waste My Time." By this time Preston and his wife had two new additions to their family, so he sold the recording equipment to me. Time to record a new album. We missed Preston this time around but he had taught us a lot about recording. "Surreal" managed to be released, surviving through Daren and Dustin getting married and ultimately My Advice To You's end with Dustin moving to Cali after 8 years of playing together. During down time with My Advice To You demo's were recorded for some friends bands like The Cheesecake of Fury, What About Bob? and Scarlet Letter. Also during that down time Casey's current band A Day In The Life was conceived. A 10 song acoustic demo was recorded. Some songs made it to My Advice To You and others later to be recorded as A Day In The Life. Some of the guitar tracks from the demo are the base of the full recordings. Currently, A Day In The Life "Looking Back" ep is the first to be released on Another Day Records with What About Bob?'s "Something To That Effect" soon to follow. Other projects with Workman's Comp comprised of Jeremy Workman (guitar, vocals) Daren Richardson (bass, vocals) and Casey Walke (drums), Temporary Name comprised of Reid Harvey (guitar) J.P. (bass, vocals) and Casey Walke (drums, piano), and 8-Track Mind comprised of Rachel Crowfoot (vocals, guitar) Courtney Varnell (vocals, guitar) Scott Pond (guitar) Brandon Vaughn (keyboards, programming) David Star (bass) and Casey Walke (drums, guitar) Check out anotherdayrecords.com for all the latest info and keep coming back to post your thoughts.
